R is for retinoids

Are You Using A Topical Retinoid?

Have you ever tried to incorporate a topical retinoid into your daily skincare routine?

How’d it go?

Using a topical retinoid — a magical daily dose of vitamin A for your skin that unclogs your pores and tells your skin cells to make more collagen — is both inexpensive and effective. Imagine that seemingly mythical combination in a skincare product!

However, many of my patients give up on their retinoid journey because the first few weeks typically involves some irritation and acclimation.

The first few weeks in the gym, for someone who is new to it, are also uncomfortable. Same goes for the first few times you divert part of each paycheck into an investment account that you don’t plan to touch for decades.

There are few things in life that are rewarding but don’t also require some initial discomfort and commitment.

If you’ve never tried a topical retinoid, give it some thought.

If you tried one but eventually gave up (“my skin is just too sensitive” — I see you), why did you stop?

If you’re paying the Mary Kay lady up the street who is driving her 14th pink Escalade… nevermind.

If Einstein knew about tretinoin, he would have put it right up there with compound interest as the most powerful force in the universe.

(Aside: Einstein likely did not say this about compound interest, but I bet you’ve heard that he did, and I don’t think he would have minded the attribution.)
