Savor The Second Chances: A Reflection On The Joy Of Parenting

I snapped these because it was the second coming, and I was reveling in it.

I thought the “lineups” were over.

A sweet and funny memory but no longer an active presence in my life.

But kids have an uncanny ability to surprise and delight. For that I’m grateful.

As my son would surely tell you, the only “lineup” here is the third one (obviously). The second is a “battle,” and who knows what the showcase in the first one is, but I like it. That was the first of its kind.

I thought the lineups were over, but he brought them back.

Sometimes we get second chances to savor, delight, do better, love, laugh, surprise, serve. Don’t waste them.

Experiences like this bring to mind the chorus of ABBA’s lump-in-your-throat classic “Slipping Through My Fingers”:

“Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what’s in her mind?
Each time I think I’m close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time”
